USES OF POSIDONIA
Removal of Posidonia
In autumn and winter, leaves accumulate on the beaches and have a protective effect against erosion from waves and storms. Through Decree 25/2018, both public administrations and the tourism sector are being made aware of the need to properly manage the remains of Posidonia that remain on the beach in order to preserve a system of beaches and dunes that protects the coast from the extreme effects of climate change.

Beach management
The Conselleria of Environment and Territory, in order to comply with the Decree, has created a management protocol where administrations can join and be part of a removal management focused on the conservation and protection of the beach system. Through this protocol, the administration can collect Posidonia remains and return them to those beaches that are undergoing recession. Part of the removed Posidonia can be used for traditional purposes and never for commercial use.

Agricultural and livestock: Posidonia remains can be used as feed for ruminants, as bedding for livestock, or as fertilizer for fields.
