POSIDONIA SURVEILLANCE SERVICE
All of those people who love and enjoy the sea know the need to take care of it and protect it.
The nautical sector is compatible with the protection of natural spaces through environmental management and assistance to sailors who come to enjoy our waters. In this sense, often due to lack of information or lack of necessary resources, we cause damage that can sometimes be irreparable.
Many times, due to lack of information or lack of necessary resources, we cause damage that can sometimes be irreparable. We would like to continue promoting the good preservation of the Posidonia meadows in the Balearic Islands, which are protected by Decree 25/2015, of July 28, on the conservation of Posidonia oceanica in the Balearic Islands.
It is established that all vessels must anchor on sandy bottoms and that both the anchor and the chain must always remain outside the meadows of this characteristic marine plant of the entire Mediterranean Sea.
To comply with this need and the regulation of the Decree, the IBANAT manages 18 patrol boats that patrol daily to assist sailors and inspect anchorages to ensure they do not damage the seagrass.
Along with the work carried out by the Surveillance Service, there is also the “Posidonia Phone“.
The Posidonia Phone is a free contact line to assist sailors.
Through it, we provide information to citizens, assist in case of doubts regarding anchoring, as well as report possible damages or harmful actions to the meadows.
The phone number is 617 975 172
